4 / Pick-Up Your Gear
-
Pull up to our shop and head into our front office. We’ll be here to walk you through our closest paddle spots - the Salt River, Lake Saguaro, Canyon Lake, etc. We’ll give you maps with personalized recommendations and make sure you’re comfortable with where you’re going. We will also give you recommendations on the right rental gear for you and teach you how to use the gear if needed!
-
Then we’ll head out to your vehicle and help you get loaded up. There’s no need to have a truck or a roof rack, we use a universal block and strap system to securely place gear on the roof of your vehicle. If you have a convertible or would like the gear deflated for any other reason, we have inflatable kayaks and paddleboards that roll up and fit in bags! We’ll show you how to load the equipment and make sure you’re comfortable doing it yourself for the drive back home!
5 / Have an Absolute Blast!
Head out to the water and enjoy the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Check out our Places to Explore page for information on great places to get out on the water near our shop and the Trip Checklist and FAQ pages to help plan your trip.
6/ Return Your Gear
Load your car back up (you can always choose to deflate gear to return it) and head back to the shop. We’ll be here to meet you or will give you instructions for self-returns. Tell us all about your experience! We love talking to our customers about their time out on the water. Returns are due by 7pm or the next morning from 7-9am.
The Shuttle Dilemma
Do you offer shuttles? Do I have to have two cars to float the Salt River?
We are not able to provide shuttles, but don’t panic! Keep reading. Local paddle shops have not yet been granted permits to operate within the Tonto National Forest which is where our closest lakes and rivers are located. The easiest way to float the river is by staging two vehicles and shuttling yourself. However, as long as you have one vehicle, we have solutions to get you out on the water. To float the Lower Salt River, we personally use rideshare or the tubing shuttle busses to return to our vehicles so we can attest that they are reliable options. Don’t want to bother with shuttling? The lakes are a perfect choice then.
I don't have a truck or a roof rack. Can I still transport equipment?
While you do have to transport the equipment to your destination yourself, there’s no need to have a truck or a roof rack system on your vehicle. We safely put equipment on all kinds of vehicles. For cars, we use thick foam blocks on the roof to protect your vehicle and strap up through the door frames to keep everything nice and secure. The equipment never touches your car and it’s perfectly safe for rental cars as well. If you have a truck, loading equipment is a breeze. We just ask that you have your bed (mostly) empty. We have plenty of straps to secure the equipment back there. Have a convertible or are uncomfortable putting the equipment on the roof for some other reason? We have both inflatable kayaks and paddleboards for you. They roll up neatly and fit in a bag with your other rental gear. A hand pump is free with your rental equipment upon request and an electric car air pump
